Walking Buses for Dundee Primary Schools
Our Walking Bus programme helps pupils enjoy a safe, active, and sociable start to their school day. Delivered by the Active Travel team at Ancrum Outdoor Centre, these guided group walks support children to build confidence in travelling actively while reducing traffic congestion and promoting healthier habits.
A Walking Bus operates just like a regular bus - but on foot. Pupils join our trained staff and volunteers at designated “stops” along a planned route, then walk together to school in a fun, supportive environment. Along the way, children learn important road‑safety skills, enjoy time with friends, and experience the benefits of daily physical activity.
Walking Buses contribute to cleaner air, calmer streets, and stronger school communities. They’re a simple, enjoyable way to help families choose active travel - one step at a time.
